What do I need to take the class?
Do I need to be a good swimmer?
Scuba Diving is among the safest recreational activities. It is even safer than snow skiing, camping or cycling.
The minimum age is 10, and there is no upper limit.
Classes at Central Coast Dive Center run for two consecutive weeks three nights a week. Each class session is approximately three hours long, with two of those hours usually spent in the pool. The classroom portion consists of video, lecture and a quiz each night. The confined water portion is practical skills in the pool with low student to teacher ratio.
You will need to purchase your own mask, fins, boots, snorkel and a textbook. All other equipment you would need, such as tanks and regulators, are supplied for the duration of the class.
No, you do not. While reasonable skills and health are required, most people, regardless of age or fitness level, can take Scuba.
As an Open Water certified diver, you are trained to dive to a depth of 60ft. Advanced Open Water certified divers can descend to 100 feet. The absolute recreational limit is 130 feet.
